Accountant asks court to dissolve marriage because his wife is a liar

An Accountant, Ezekiel Onyemalu, has asked a Lagos State High Court sitting in Badagry to dissolve his 14 year marriage with his estranged wife, Joy, saying she is a liar and deceitful. Onyemalu (petitioner) told the court presided by Justice Abolanle Okikiolu-Ighile that his wife used their child’s health challenge as an opportunity to extort money from him. 

According to him, his wife had been living outside her matrimonial home for more than two years and the marriage had broken down irretrievably. “I want the court to dissolve the marriage and grant me custody of my three children to enable me take proper care of them,” he said. Responding to the petition, Joy told the court that she left her matrimonial home after family members of her husband came and beat her up. After listening to the respondent, the trial judge, Justice Okikiolu-Ighile adjourned the matter to May 25 for adoption of written address.
