When to Replace Your Hair Combs/Brushes & Why
When you reach a point where it is impossible to remove buildup in your hair combs & brushes, the best thing to do is to invest in new ones.
Your hairbrushes and
combs can last for years but it is a good idea to take care of these hair tools
as you would any other hair tools as you style your hair during the week.
Particular attention should be paid to your brush’s bristles as that will let
you know when to replace them.
Replacing your hair
combs and brushes are very important because these hair tools could be a
breeding ground for dandruff, bacteria, and yeast – and other particles that is
continually recycled throughout your scalp whenever you comb your hair. The
bacteria and yeast trapped in these hair tools can lead to irritation and can eventually
lead to clogging of hair follicles, causing the hair to break.
Why You Need to Replace Your Hair Combs & Brushes
Your hairbrushes and
combs contain bacteria and dust that build up on daily basis. This kind of
bacteria clings to your hair tools and is usually impossible to remove. So, if
you have dandruff on your scalp and comb your hair with these infected hair
tools, you are simply reintroducing dandruff back to the hair. This is the
reason why most people find it very difficult to treat dandruff. Dandruff
keeps entering back to your hair through the infected combs.
Also, if your hairbrush has missing bristles, it will not brush your effectively, you will end up
damaging your hair and causing split ends.
How to Clean Your Hair Combs / Brushes
Use your fingers to
pull out all build-up hairs. Rinse them with warm water and few drops of
shampoo. Shake it for some minutes and leave it to dry.
Plastic hair combs
& brushes should be left inside a bowl of water for about 20-25 minutes to
soak out all the bad stuff.
Signs You Should Replace Your Hair Combs & Brushes
You need to replace
your hair combs & brushes once you notice missing spokes or bristles or
when it’s super dirty and can’t be cleaned. If your hair comb is too dirty, you
can’t just remove the hair and lint, simply replace them. Also when they are
cracked at the ends, replace them to avoid damaging your hair.
How Often Should You Replace Your Hair Combs?
It is advisable to
replace them every 6-12 months especially if it’s a plastic comb. How long your
hair comb last depends on the quality of the comb, the type and texture of your
natural hair, the hair treatments, and products you use according to hair
experts.
